The British equivalent of "Honey" as a form of address is now forbidden by the EU

In both Australia and Britain it is common for women serving customers to address the customers as "Love" and that form of address is sometimes returned, mainly by regular customers:

"Pub landlords beware: from next Sunday it will be an offence, punishable by unlimited compensation orders, to allow customers to chat up bar staff. No, this isn't an early April fool. It's a European directive, sneaked into British law by Women's Minister Harriet Harman. From April 6, employers will risk being sued if a bar worker or waitress complains of being called "love" or "darling", or if staff overhear customers telling sexist jokes.

So serious is the threat that lawyers are advising pub owners to cover themselves by displaying warning notices declaring: "Harassment is not tolerated."

But why do we need yet another law - and yet more red tape - to enforce what has always been a matter for common sense, to be dealt with by the landlord's ancient right to ban difficult customers? Isn't this an invitation to employees to cash in on imaginary grievances?

In fact, everything about this new law is an affront not only to common sense but to democracy itself. Nobody voted for it. It was dreamed up by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels and is now being imposed on Britain without parliamentary debate or division, after a ruling by an unelected judge.

I don't know what to say to this...
I'm speechless.

So if we can’t call a gal a nickname that we make up and we don’t know their names, what do we call them? And whatever it is, it must not be sexist or demeaning in any way! So perhaps the new name should be, FMB, short for Female, Mammal, Biped. Totally descriptive, and not sexist in any way. However it would be demeaning for those in Wheelchairs. So I guess that it too would have to be shortened down to FM, Female Mammal.

But the problems come with gal whose name is something that isn’t liked by others. So far I have know a women, whose first name was Honey. And another whose first name was Bertha, therefore she was always known by her middle name, Babe. So is calling a gal named Honey, sexist?

Great fun for the courts, while trying to figure out what do to!

It ain't about what it's about, of course; it's about control freaks getting their latest fix (plus they get to morally condemn other people at the same time: a narcissistic twofer!)

Of course, like all addicts, the dosage required for the next fix will rise.

I left England about 12 years ago, and it seems that the country has been going downhill in terms of personal freedom ever since, most of it due to the mindless bureaucrats in Brussels. I have recently started to listen online to Planet Rock, a UK based Classic Rock radio station, and I am absolutely disgusted at the censorship placed on the presenters, and this ridiculous law enacted by yet another leftist in Brussels just proves to me that leftists hate anyone to have any freedom or fun.

In NYC, a "city council" woman proposed to ban the words "nigga'", "nigger" and "ho'". The problem was, those were countercultural (rap-influenced and vice versa) bonding words among young black youth, so they were outlawing the habitual language of...blacks! Hey, maybe this is a good idea, but it's certainly not a good idea, especially since outlawing anything makes it cooler, so suddenly "Hey ho'" said with a sly smile would become "Hey HOOOOOOOOGH, MAH LIL' NIGGA!" in public, so such a boy (and being from NYC, I will note that cute curvy black girls have much louder mouths than the guys do, since the guys usually adopt a strong silent gangster posture, often meaning that's really what they are, even!).

Let's see what happened with that legislation of this year:
http://sweetness-light.com/archive/new-york-city-declares-the-n-word-verbotten

It's not "binding" but voluntary. Mainly for city council members, who I am sure use it all the time.

This is another example of white people forcing blacks into housing units (and now adding thought-control threats for "their own good"):

"They don’t realise how their self-image is debilitated when they use this awful word in public."

And more RACIST condensation (translation: "I'm sorry you are so stupid since we didn't teach you well enough the first time."):

"I forgive those young people who do not know their history, and I blame myself and my generation for not preparing you"

The old word which is still popular, is "Homey" which is quite akin to the Australian use of the term "Mate." It means they live in the same "hood" (neighborhood), on the same home ground, which, especially in NYC is segregated exactly because of government creation of huge ugly public housing that lead to high crime strips of land that normal mixed-race people like me and my girlfriend (who is actually fully Korean), with a lot of money, simply avoid, due to the high crime rate that surrounds dehumanizing housing projects like paint sticks to a wall (except in a housing project where the front entrance looks more like an armed guard filled jail entrance than a lobby).

So now there's a prohibition on the N word. Congratulations, city council woman, you have just made the N word COOLER, more rebellious.

Here is a Google Earth map that SHOWS the housing units that ISOLATE black Harlem from the rest of the VERY wealthy and vibrant economy of the rest of Manhattan:

http://s68.photobucket.com/albums/i14/SnickSnack/Columbia/?action=view¤t=NYCHarlem.jpg

Red is housing projects. Also note a local feature, one that PSYCHOLOGICALLY separates the WORLD'S RICHEST PEOPLE from some of the poorest, namely very wide solid stone raised subway bridge that has arches to allow the roads to pass under it, but which is dark as night all day, since the road tunnels through it are so long. One one side of this bridge, along Central Park, are $20 MILLION DOLLAR, full-floor housing (WITH COVETED, HIGH STATUS VIEWS OF CENTRAL PARK AND THE SUNSETS IN NEW JERSEY). On the other side of this bridge are burned-out, boarded-up buildings. This separation begins just under the lower edge of my map. I live in the Columbia area, so I'm on the map, too.

Approximately HALF of Manhattan is above my dark "war line" all being "Harlem" (except for a tiny Columbia University Medical school area way above the top of the map), yet very few college educated professionals move into Harlem because of the simple GOVERNMENT SPONSORED centers of crime known as "housing projects".

You wrote, "And more RACIST condensation (translation: "I'm sorry you are so stupid since we didn't teach you well enough the first time."):"
The proper word is "condescension", not "condensation".
Two things for you to do. Stop hating white people for the failings of blacks and purchase a dictionary.

Now *you* are being condescending, based on a technicality. What I wrote was researched and sincere. What you wrote was just snarky (sarcastic, impertinent, or irreverent in tone or manner).

Thanks for the correction, I guess, yet pointing out a misspelling error by an absent-minded Ph.D. owes more to modern computers' failure to highlight grammatical errors, which is what it was, not a misspelling error. I lack indeed a working GRAMMAR checker and it's funny that my correct spelling of "condensation" relates to my background in chemistry. The only grammar checkers I've ever tried give so many false positives as to be useless. I naively thought that the content of my message would be responded to, not the editor-lacking grammar.

I own all three of the big dictionaries (Webster's Third being the biggest, in blue, followed by Random House, in orange, but the one I can actually lift is by American Heritage, in red), but they don't come out for internet posts.

It's really hard to find a usefully traditional thesaurus these days, though, Roget's being the only one I've found that doesn't have some sort of ultra weird format, but just lists root words alphabetically and leaves the "category" weird stuff at the very end.

But the idea that I hate whites for the failings of blacks is a negligent or purposeful misreading of what I wrote. I do disapprove of ("hate") certain whites who take condescending responsibility for the failure of blacks to on average thrive (and when they do move the hell out of Harlem) as if black are helpless puppets in need of STRONGER Euro/American teaching lessons and thought-policing, to STOP BLACKS from using perfectly healthy adolescent slang, EXACTLY AS WHITE ADOLESCENTS DO, means I detect racism in those politically powerful limousine liberals who one fine day are caught having to take the subway, and looked at young blacks AS BLACKS instead of AS KIDS.

Do they RANT ABOUT their own white children use swear words, and who, fact is, are the money behind the racial slurs and swearing that is embodied in rap music? My favorite swear word song of all time is by the top paid rapper in the world, a WHITE guy named Eminem, called 'Nail in the Coffin', and expert being:

"You should be out killin motherfuckers right now
Kill a motherfucker dead, kill'em dead bitch
Shoot'em in the fuckin head, go ahead bitch
Slap my mom, slap the fuck outa her!
She cant sue you, she wouldnt get a buck out of you
Cuz your broke as fuck you suck your a fuckin joke
If you was really sellin coke, well then what the fuck
you stop for dummy? If you slew some crack
you'd make alot more money than you do from rap"

Sorry, I didn't correct his grammar, or spelling. Hey, he didn't go to college, but like me, lived within spitting distance of segregated inner city areas of Detroit.

P.S. I also spent TWO HOURS making a "military style" map of Manhattan that was a sincere attempt to demonstrate how white-guilt-based-government policy has had damaging effects on the black community of Harlem, by locking out the normal process of high-income people moving into cheaper housing areas.

drnik,

The url for your map was truncated and doesn't work. Might you try again, perhaps inserting some carriage returns to avoid future truncation? Thx.

I'll try a short version. My copy/paste works, but it probably adds a line-feed on PCs.
