Must not be praised by David Duke

We read:
"Task force members will once again gather on the UO campus tonight, prior to a lecture by Tomislav Sunic, a former Croatian diplomat and political science professor at several universities in the United States. Sunic has been interviewed several times by David Duke, a former Louisiana state representative and Ku Klux Klan member who on his Web site credited Sunic with possessing "one of the greatest intellects of European mankind." The Pacifica Forum's Web site offers similar praise of Sunic.

Michael Williams, an Anti Hate Task Force member, said the group probably would not have organized today's rally in protest of Sunic's message, so soon after Irving's talk, had it not also been for the recent spate of hate speech-related crimes in Eugene. "It's all very disturbing," he said.

Pacifica Forum founder Orval Etter said he is unfamiliar with Sunic's work and referred questions to forum member Jimmy Marr, who did not return a telephone message left at his home Monday evening. Etter said he believes media attention given to recent incidents and the task force's protests have fueled the string of hate crimes.

I basically know nothing about Sunic other than what a quick Google search reveals but I see that Sunic opens one of his essays with "No political phenomenon can be so creative and so destructive as nationalism" so I suspect that it is a balanced account of national feeling that the Leftist students at the University of Oregon find threatening

Anti hate task force? Hate, like love, is a human emotion. How do these mushy-brained leftists propose to eliminate a human emotion from society?

What's next? Will they soon outlaw depression, or sadness, or excitement, or frustration? Soon, the word hate will need an entire dictionary all to itself. But it does keep the lawyers happy, doesn't it!

As someone that has heard Dr. Sunic speak, let me clear that up. The reason Dr. Sunic sometimes thinks of "nationalism" as "destructive" because in the minds of continental European intellectuals, "nationalism" means dedication to your own particular white ethnicity. His contention, and his hope, is that whites get over such trivialities as "English vs Irish," anti-Polish jokes, anti-German jokes, anti-Irish slurs, anti-Italian slurs, and so on. In other words, the hour is too late for whites to be bashing each other, because whites suffer from numerous problems, not least among which is white societies' obsession with "diversity" and "equality," and the festering sores of "poverty centers" and "defamation leagues" thereof.

When he says these things to American audiences, he adds that he thinks that white Americans (and the American racial right) have done the best job of anyone in subjugating their ethnic mentality into an omnibus racial one, and that white Europe should learn from it. The historical reason for that is that the United States of America's white population consists of virtually every Caucasian ethnic group on Earth.
