White teen who hung nooses sentenced to 4 months

We read:
"A Louisiana teenager who hung nooses off the back of his truck to intimidate a group of black civil rights demonstrators has been sentenced to four months in prison.

Federal prosecutors say 19-year-old Jeremiah Munsen displayed the nooses when he drove past people who had attended a massive civil rights march in Jena on Sept. 20.

Munsen had faced up to a year in prison after pleading guilty in April to a misdemeanour charge of interfering with the marchers' federally protected right to travel.

The marchers were waiting in Alexandria for a bus home to Tennessee.

By driving past while they were waiting at a bus stop he was interfering with their right to travel?? Did he stop them getting on the bus? That is a totally trumped up charge that would have been dismissed by any sane court in any other circumstances.

Not only did he NOT commit the "crime" he's charged with, his constitutional right to free expression was violated! What kind of ambulance chaser did he have representing him? This just shows how far the authorities will go simply to pander to certain groups.

by pleading guilty to the charge he deserves what he got.
He should of course never have done so, fought them to the bitter end.
And indeed, his lawyer should have told him so.
But maybe that lawyer knows the courts around there and expected the case to be lost and the sentence higher because the courts don't always care about the law...

In all probabilty he had a court appointed attorney and that is nothing more than the govt covering their own ass by saying he was represented by council. The mouthpiece probably told him to take the deal so he wouldn't get charged with a more serious crime failing to tell him that the govt couldn't prove their case. In my state, court appointed attorneys get a pittance from the state so they want to get these cases off their books as soon as possible.

I think this was in very bad taste, but I wonder if this could be classified as "Driving while white?" A crime in the politically correct America.

Just a thought.
