Iceland: After banking bust, free-speech turn

We read:
"Seeking a new global role for Iceland following the banking bust caused by its stint as a financial superpower, the country’s lawmakers on Feb. 16 turned to a new vision: Turn the country into a haven for free speech.

Measures before Parliament are aimed at improving transparency laws and luring Internet-based media and data centers from all over the world to use Iceland as a base for investigative journalism.

One aim is to counter challenges to media freedom in other countries such as Britain, where laws heavily favor plaintiffs in libel cases. But Iceland doesn’t want the innovation to stop there.”

Iceland? Does that place still exist? Didn't fat Algore tell us that it melted?

Interesting concept....Freedom resulting in an improved economy. I thought hope and change were all we needed.

After Iceland effectively stole vasts amounts from Britain and the Netherlands as a result of losing all the capital it attracted when the financial bubble burst(thanks to the US!), it's trying to dream up new ways to rip off its neighbors in Europe.
(PS. Iceland may be finacially melting, but it's Greenland that's literally melting!)

If you want a haven for free speech to occur, have large concentrations of whites. They are genetically predisposed to value laws that protect the freedom to insult annoy harrass.

I am insulted by such an annoying and inappropriate comment and feel duly harassed, too. Besides, behavior such as you describe has nothing to do with race; it's women who are at fault. Everyone knows that.

Gore just called and said your next serving of Kool-Aid is ready.

Well, if the Democrat party succeeds in effing things up too badly before we throw them out in November, at least Iceland should make a decent place to escape to. At least that's one place that's starting to do things right.

7:26AM - cute, but the Greenland icesheets are retreating, whether thru natural causes or man-made or both. However, it opens up new opportunities for Greenlanders and the Kingdom of Denmark of which it's a part, re mining and oil, and even more agriculture and farming. When the Vikings first went there the climate was warmer, hence the name 'Greenland'.
