Connecticut Marines Fight for 'Don't Trend on Me' Flag Display

We read:
"A group of retired Marines is asking Connecticut's attorney general to allow the "Don't Tread on Me" Gadsden flag to fly over the state Capitol on July 4 after Capitol Police refused the request saying it doesn’t fall within the state’s flag flying parameters.

The group says the the yellow banner, which sports a coiled rattlesnake and its trademark motto, is the original flag of the U.S. Marine Corps and clearly fits into the section of the policy which states that the Connecticut State Capitol can fly “flags of recognized military organizations of the U.S.A.”

But Capitol Police have denied several requests to fly the flag -- which has become a favorite nationwide among the Tea Party movement and a popular alternative to the stars and stripes – saying it is not the official Marines flag.

But the policy wasn’t always so strictly interpreted. The Society of Cincinnati, a historic group dedicated to preserving the ideals of the American Revolution has flown its flag over the Capitol every July 4 since at least 1968. It was denied this year amid the Gadsden flag flap.

Capitol Police even approved an earlier request to fly the Gadsden Flag over the Capitol in April, but reconsidered after lawmakers dubbed it a political symbol due to Tea Party connections to the request and said it didn’t fit the state’s requirements.

Although I am personally a Tea Party advocate, the problem here is that once again, Political Correctness has allowed a group (the Tea Party) to commandeer a symbol that has historical significance above and beyond the organization. And because of that, Political Correctness now suppresses said symbol. the fact is simply that Liberals will do anything to eliminate the opposition, including taking away freedom of speech.

Noone "commandeered" the flag. It's just an appropriate statement for what the tea party is all about.
And as you know the tea party is not a single organisation, so there's noone to claim the flag as theirs.

In fact, if anything the star spangled banner the flag and theme of the tea party.
But of course the left has hated that one for decades and defames it whenever it can.

Um, do you really think the Tea Party movement has any connection with "anything" that's PC? In fact, it's one of the things we're against! The DTOM flag is a symbol that we associate with and believe in because of it's grand history, and because it represents the freedom and liberty we demand of this govt. It also serves as a reminder to this govt. that, like the Marines who originally fought under that flag, we are ready to do the same.

if Obama has his way...and it looks like he eventually will....The Stars and Stripes will be banned from all Federal buildings and replaced with the Red hammer and cycle banner!

either the hammer and sickle, or the green flag of islamic jihad.

He might even make a combination of the two, green flag with a gold hammer and sickle on red shield.

Um, do you really think the Tea Party movement has any connection with "anything" that's rational?
