R.I.: Incorrect hat

Any representation of a gun is intolerable to the fruitcakes of the Left
"Christan Morales says her son just wanted to honor American troops when he made a hat decorated with an American flag and small plastic Army figures. But the hat ran afoul of the district's no-weapons policy because the toy soldiers were carrying tiny weapons. "His teacher called and said it wasn't appropriate because it had guns," Morales said.

Morales' 8-year-old son, David, was assigned to make a hat for the day when his second-grade class would met their pen pals from another school. She and her son came up with an idea to add patriotic decorations to a camouflage hat.

Earlier this week, the Tiogue School in Coventry sent the hat home with David after class. He wore a plain baseball cap on the day of the visit instead.

Superintendent Kenneth R. Di Pietro said the principal told the family that the hat would be fine if David replaced the Army men holding weapons with ones that didn't have any.

"The issue for us was, can it be done in a way that didn't violate the zero-tolerance for weapons?" he said. "Nothing was being done to limit patriotism, creativity, other than find an alternative to a weapon."

The dumb bum seems to think that toy guns are the same as real guns

Maybe they should only honor the soldiers who don't carry weapons. In fact, maybe the US military should set a better example by also implementing a no weapons policy. would that be better?

Once again, we see the results of this country's addiction to political correctness. It has been the perfect vehicle for the mindless dupes of the Left to implement their Twilight-Zone policies.

What's needed in this case is a massive lawsuit against the school, and all those hacks who took part in this violation of this youngsters First Amendment right to freedon of expression. Also, force them to stand before a judge and jury and prove that a plastic toy soldier is a weapon.

In this country a toy gun is indeed a gun for the law (and thus you can get the same legal trouble owning one as you would a real gun, meaning several years in prison) if "it looks too much like a real gun" where it is up to the arresting officer to determine what would constitute "too much" as that's not defined in the law.

Okay, this is stupid on so many levels. And don't try the 'toy guns are guns for the law.' We are talking here about plastic army figures, approximately 3" tall at the most. The 'toy gun' in question would be a small part of the molded plastic design that would be about the same diameter as a mechanical pencil lead. In other words, the 'toy gun' in question is about 0.5mm diameter and probably less than an inch long.

Some people are so P.C., anti-gun that they should be SHOT!

Anon 5:10, your argument is flawed. The legal definition of a gun (firearm) "requires" that it be able to fire a projectile. (as in FIREarm)

Gun
(1. a weapon consisting of a metal tube, with mechanical attachments, from which projectiles are shot by the force of an explosive; a piece of ordnance.)

A one inch-long plastic toy is NOT a gun/weapon by any stretch of the imagination, unless you're dealing with some EduNazi who runs one of the country's indroctrination camps, and who's intellect is limited by the amount of Kool-Aid they drink. This young boys family should drain every cent from this "school" and the leftist dupes who run it.

These are the same types of schools where "tug-o-war" became "tug-of-peace."
