"English only" is a winner

We read:
"Greg Simons, the owner of Reedy Creek Diner in North Carolina, became frustrated over his inability to communicate with non-English speaking customers. So, he took a controversial step: He posted an ‘English Only’ sign. Simons claims that the results have been unbelievable. He’s received support and acclaim from people across the nation. And, his business has been surging. Watch his explanation, below

Bravo! We need more like him instead of pandering to the Politically Correct, Left-wing pussies. And if you disagree, try going into a store run by an Eastern European, targeted to Eastern European clients in areas where they are settling in droves throughout the U.S. Just try to get decent service by speaking English only. Good f*cking luck.

You got that right. I live in Brooklyn, NY where very few people still speak English. Now, it's mostly Russian and several middle eastern languages. They own most of the local business's and they wouldn't go an inch out of their way to communicate with Americans. If you can't understand what they're saying, (and most times you can't) go somewhere else! They couldn't care less.

This is what happens when a nation of weak, mindless sheep lose their will to even hang onto their own country. There is no other place on earth where the people would simply lay down and allow their country to be taken from them. It's long been known that generally speaking, Americans are some of the dumbest people on the planet. To that, now add the weakest. Pathetic.

I think that a private business is free to serve or not serve anyone on any grounds. Race, creed, language ability, facial piercings, ugly clothing, etc... It is the business owner's choice to limit his potential revenue. Other businesses will see the opportunity and grab those customers. For example if a diner served only women, then the diner down the street would see the opportunity and advertise its more inclusive policy. The first diner would limit his revenue to women who want to dine with women and perhaps go out of business. That's why I don't have a problem with private businesses having press 1 for English, 2 for Mexican, 3 for Tagalog, etc... That's their perogative.

If he has so many spanish-speaking would-be customers and would like their cash, he could have a bi-lingual menu, just as many countries do for tourists. However, if these spanish-speaking visitors of his are resident in the US, it's amazing they can't cope with any english even in a restaurant, especially as english is a very international language.

Anon 5:01, why? He states that since his sign went up, his business has tripled. Besides, all bi-lingual accommodation does is encourage the non-English-speaking person to not learn English. If I go to a foreign, non-speaking country, do you really expect them to fall over backwards trying to understand my English? I didn't think so.

One of the reasons foreigners (mostly illegals) refuse to assimilate here is because of things like bi-lingual education and "press-1", both pet projects of the Left. The Left is also responsible for fighting the effort to make English the official language of the country. The fact that it's not is something the American people should truly be ashamed of. Do you really think Mexico would change or alter it's language for you?

Surely Old Man you mean 'should be free' - because they are bound by anti-discrimination legislation...?
I don't have a problem with this - but I speak English.
I am sure glad that when I travel overseas people generally understand me or I would probably starve.

Anon 1:11 The US is not on it's own when it comes to laying down to be trampled by foreign languages. What about Australia, Canada, Great Britian, New Zealand South Africa and all other Commonwealth countries that were settled by English speaking settlers. India is a good example given the size of the native population but many of them have chosen to learn English purely to enhance their job resumes.

English should be the national language of English settled countries since many native languages abound and a single one could not be selected. All immigrants should speak/read the official language before being granted citizenship.

---If the restaurant was in a hotel or a touristy area, maybe. But that's not the case! Those aren't tourists, they're aliens, illegal aliens most likely. If they don't want to speak English why don't they go to a Mexican restaurant? Seriously, this illegals are acting like lesbians going to a straight bar and bitching that men are hitting on them. Hey spicks, you come to my country, you get used to my way of doing things!

Right on Sig and Anonymous 1:11Several years ago, I made a business trip to Miami. We went out for lunch after the meeting and before going to the airport to return to Jacksonville. The Cuban restaurant we went into had menus in Spanish and every worker was speaking Spanish. While I can read Spanish okay, my speaking it isn't very good, so ordering was a real experience. The restaurant was crowded and I got the impression that I was hindering the flow because I wasn't fluent in their language.

Perhaps it would be helpful if all restaurants and eateries everywhere (in every country) would make it clear from the outside which languages can be used inside (in order of preference).
