"Heifer" is a bad word

A heifer is just a young cow, though I think it can mean an overweight female
Of all the things a high school cheerleading coach should do, calling her charges "highfalutin heifers" isn't one of them. In fact, the world can now rest assured that precisely such a claim can get a cheerleading coach taken away from the team she is supposed to lead

As first reported by Houston TV network KPRC (and brought to Prep Rally's attention by the folks at Larry Brown Sports), the Cypress Woods (Texas) High cheerleading coach is no longer in charge of the program after a recording emerged on which she called her team "highfalutin heifers."

"Who do you think you all are?" the coach said in the recording. "Highfalutin heifers. You can just come and go as you please. Fire me!"

Coaches abusing poor performers is a common thing in sport but these little petals were apparently too delicate for that

I listened to the recording and to me it sounds like she is telling the girls they are not highfalutin heifers , not privileged individuals

Slow news day. FAIL.

For our friends from outside the US, heifer is slang for an overweight female.

But I don't see that she did anything wrong. If every coach who yelled at his or her players was removed from coaching, we'd have about five HS teams left to play other in the US.

This is just another shining example of how the current generation of "adults" are nothing more than children left to their own devices by parents who didn't bother to instill proper morality and virtue.

It all comes down to asking just why would any reasonable adult with any amount of self control say such a thing?

Our morality has waned, and our country is crumbling before us because the Baby Boomers reared children without any moral compass.

It's not just overweight ladies that get referred to that way. In farm country I've heard pretty much any single female referred to as a heifer. So I don't buy the weight thing. I've heard an attractive single woman referred to as a heifer one day and a philly the next. Just farm slang.

Actually, I prefer the term "fine little fillies", myself.

Yeah Sig,

You're right. Surely no adult would try to motivate his or her charges by making them feel bad about how they are performing because the adult knows the child can do better.

As adults we must make sure we never say anything that could be remotley considered offensive to our fine children of today. We just need to blow sunshine up their a$$ and give them all trophies because they're all winners!

/sarcasm off

Looks to me like you're a big part of the problem.

Yeah Tom .....

..... because we all know the way to motivate anyone is to insult them based on something that has nothing to do with the situation.

Even if, as you sarcastically assert, the coach was trying to get the team to perform better, how is that related to being call a "heifer?"

In the terminology of professional sports, this coach had "lost the locker room. This was not her first rant and it now seems clear her yelling was not reaching the kids, so she yelled more and more until finally doing something stupid.

Should she have been fired? Maybe, maybe not. It is hard to know the context of the comment without hearing the whole thing. At the very least her comment of "hifalutin' heifers" was inappropriate. Whether that inappropriateness rose to a level of dismissal is not clear.

What is interesting and not mentioned in this forum is that the girl who recorded the rant was suspended for two days for making a recording of a staff member on school grounds.

I find that even more disturbing than the rant.

Wow,

You guys are coddled little babies. No wonder you take offense at words.

"Lost the locker room" indeed. More like never had it due to parents like you guys singing nothing by praises for your little bunny foo foos.

" The beatings will continue until morale improves." How about sticks and stones can break my bones but names will never hurt me.

No wonder your little candy ass kids are no match for mine when it comes to, well, everything.

I hear eBay has auctions for just about everything. Try seeing if you can get a clue there because you don't have one now.

Anon 9:34 lol good one! (See words really don't hurt.)

But your point is well taken. My statement that you quoted was indeed off base. I should have said, No wonder YOU AND your little candy ass kids are no match for mine when it comes to, well, everything.

Thanks for the feedback.

Oh Tommy Boy, you speak from ignorance. Over he years I have watched and witnessed parents such as you believe the only way to relive your failed childhood and life is through your kids. Instead of inspiring kids, you berate them. Instead of leading them, you do nothing but criticize. Instead of holding them accountable, you call them names.

The only way that you get away with it is because the kids are smaller than you. If you used the same terms with an adult, you'd get your butt kicked.

Congratulations on your children's excellence. They are excellent in spite of you, not because of you.

It makes me very aggravated that the coach lost her coaching job for that. How many of us have witnessed snotty cheerleaders firsthand? Haven't we all seen the cheerleader movies? They're not entirely fake. Additionally, whiny baby kids paired with drama-prone parents is what's wrong these days. "Oh, you poor thing! You did something your coach didn't like and she yelled at you? How dare she!" No. Get over it. Kids need to have the fear of God put into them. What else will keep 'em in line? ALSO media is known for blowing things way out of proportion. When I watched the news report, it sounded like her rant had been edited. Just saying.
