Democrats  Want to Change First Amendment to Allow Regulation of Corporate Speech

This is just grandstanding.  Constitutional amendments are very difficult to get enacted  -- as the ERA  proponents found
The Democratic party’s temper tantrum over Citizens United v. FEC has ratcheted up to a new level – now, instead of arguing that the ruling is wrong and the constitution doesn’t protect corporate speech, they’re arguing that the first amendment does protect corporate speech, so they’re going to change it! At least this time, they’re following the process prescribed by the Founders.

The bill in question is called the “Peoples’ Rights Amendment,” and its goal is to explicitly allow Congress to regulate corporate speech however it wants:

Section 1.  We the people who ordain and establish this Constitution intend the rights protected by this Constitution to be the rights of natural persons.

Section 2.  People, person, or persons as used in this Constitution does not include corporations, limited liability companies or other corporate entities established by the laws of any state, the United States, or any foreign state, and such corporate entities are subject to such regulation as the people, through their elected state and federal representatives, deem reasonable and are otherwise consistent with the powers of Congress and the States under this Constitution.

Note that Labor unions are not mentioned.  They are apparently to be above regulation by Congress.

Well, NO non-profit entity, and probably few "not for profit" entities are organized as corporations, so there's a whole category of business entities that would be beyond regulation.

Funny, they are willing to pass all kinds of restrictive laws on these corporations, heavy taxes and burdensome regulations, but they are not allowed to say anything about it?

Corporations are not machines; they are run by and made up of...people.

If you are going to tax, regulate and punish companies, then they should be allowed to speak up in their defense and best interests. Just like the rest of us!

I hope the ghosts of the Founding Fathers haunt and curse the sh*t out of these legislators.

The Constitution simply does not need to change, it's people who are unwilling to change.

Funny how these same libs want to treat corporations as persons for taxation purposes.

So corporate taxes go completely away, or does that whole 'taxation without representation' concept that the entire country was founded on not apply?

I note that corporations are just the only self-supporting legal category of what any child can understand: people doing things together to get something done. Oh, how evil!

Here is a perfect example of what the Left means when they say the Constitution should be a "living document".

By "living", they mean they should have the ability to change, alter, manipulate, and tweek the Constitution so it conforms to their radical whims. And, the weaker the people become, the closer Leftists will get to realizing their dream.

So why is that a problem? Because, in the end, their dream will become your nightmare.

Corporations vs Joe Blow. Who wins?

I expect that you will find that unions and most non-profit entities are incorporated in some form - whether that be as corporations, incorporated associations, statutory corporations or something else. To fail to incorporate would potentially cause governance, succession, insurance/indemnity and other issues and would render officers personally liable.
