Brussels, Belgium, wants everyone to be nice. And if not, it’s going to cost you
“Any form of insult is from now on [is] punishable, whether it be racist, homophobic or otherwise,” Brussels Mayor Freddy Thielemans’ spokesperson quoted him as saying, according to the Telegraph.
OK. Let me try an insult: Freddy Thielmans is a dick
Fines will range between 75 and 250 euros for using offensive language or sexually harassing someone in public, officials said.
Mayor Thielemans said the new fines encourage officers to take action over offensive public behavior that previously went ignored because it was never prosecuted. Thielemans said police officers “had little incentive to take any action over such incidents.”

How much does this say about the motivations of the the nanny state? "Offensive public behavior" was previously ignored because the cops had "no motivation" to respond to it. Is this the sort of police state the left wants, one motivated only by the profit motive? Budget deficit? Let's find something new illegal - lots of money to be had there!
The nanny state's route to "full employment" - regulate everything, hire faceless bureaucrats to regulate it and fund them with endless fines and permit fees.
Once again, we see undeniable proof that we made a major mistake saving these countries from Hitler.

Insult is determined by the hearer and the listeners, isn't it? I say they should just bring back dueling - then if you don't like what someone says, you challenge them on the field of honor, and they either back down or you have the option of killing them.
So much cleaner than all this crap we're piling on now.....
I gather this has something to do with an unusual amount of sexual harrassment of women in public places in Belgium. Women or men should be able to go out in public without uninvited personal remarks and suggestions or unwanted touching from complete strangers. What are the police for? - only for violent crime?

2:31 you are just begging the question as to who is a fool and what is the "truth".
Why not just fine people for breathing, after all, it's a greenhouse gas.
When Euros stop expecting Daddy Govt to look after their every petty concern and begin to want to look after themselves, as adults, then they can turn around their decline. If not, it's oblivion for them.

1:08 PM --like there's no decline in the US? Not all of Europe is governed by the same "Daddy Govt" or in the same way. Is northern Europe like southern Europe? And not all of Europe is in the Euro-zone.
And not all of EU countries are in the Euro-zone either.
