Is conservative free speech banned in America?

Is there free speech left in America...if you're a conservative or Christian?

Isn't free speech protected by the U.S. Constitution? Can your views cost you your job, career or property?

Don’t look now but it’s happening. Views considered "too conservative" “old fashioned” or “politically incorrect” are no longer tolerated by Obama’s socialist cabal or the “thought police” (I know, I repeat myself).

Let me give you just a few examples of political correctness run amok. Interestingly, in each of these cases I disagree with the views expressed.

Let’s start with the case of openly gay football player Michael Sam. On Saturday he became the first gay player drafted into the NFL. I say congratulations. I’m happy for Sam. I was rooting for him. I actually thought he should have been drafted higher.

But have we traded one prejudice and civil rights violation for another? Many religious Americans were offended by Sam’s publically affectionate hand holding, hugging, and kissing with his boyfriend on national TV after his NFL draft selection.

If it’s called "progress" and a sign of "freedom" that two men can openly kiss on national TV, what is it called when someone offended by that same scene can be fined or suspended from their job? Is that progress? Is that free speech?

Ask Miami Dolphins safety Don Jones. He tweeted about how disgusted and offended he was by that kiss. Jones was immediately fined and barred from team activities until he finishes "training for his recent comments made on social media." Training? You mean like a “reeducation camp?”

I may disagree with Don Jones’ comments. They may have hurt Michael Sam’s feelings. They may have offended gay Americans. They may have been politically incorrect. But that’s not the point. Just because you disagree with someone’s opinion, does your employer have the right to suspend you from your job? Can that same employer demand “thought training” to get your job back? In America?

2:30 and your crass bigotry is offensive and repugnant. Get a life and leave homosexuals alone. And how exactly do they "try vigorously to force themselves onto" you, any more than you on them with your intimidating rants.

Anon 2:48.....Vigorously force themselves on us. Try the San Fran. Gay Parade for nudity and perversion on display in in the public square. Game, set, match. You lose.

Anon 4:58 Apparently the meaning of "in the public square" eludes you. No surprise there. Exposing ones self in public, that being the least of what goes on, and then arguing "well you don't have to look at it, Is no argument at all." But then logic, much less decorum or plain good manners and common sense is not liberals strong suit.

Your argument is akin to this. Man shits on table in restaurant. Other diners, quite naturally object. "Well if you don't like it leave or close your eyes and cover your nose. Anyway, why are you here, everyone knows I do this here every Tuesday." Clear enough?

Why do gays have to constantly inject their sexuality into everything they do even when there is no connection. At Christmas time I saw an advertisement for a "Gay men's choir Christmas concert" . What does the sexuality of the singers have to do with a concert? All of us are sexual beings but I'm not interested in the sex life of my friends let alone total strangers. It's not my business.

8:13 Your comparisons are risible. In a democracy it's not just what you and people who "think" like you who decide what is acceptable in the "public square". You can object and whine about what others are allowed to do, but so can they about things you like to do in public. In the end it's a compromise, usually by some locally elected authority. But you probably don't believe in democracy or reciprocal freedoms and want it all your own way.

2:23 Your complaint about a few self-identifying homosexuals is amusingly ironic when today's popular culture and media is absolutely saturated with often grossly expressed heterosexuality.
And what individual heterosexuals do in expressing their sexuality in public is often very explicit too. Talk about hypocracy!

The author of the article asks, in what I infer to be an incredulous manner, "Can a person lose his job for thinking or speaking wrong?"

My first response is "Get real - where have you been the last 20 years?"

On consideration, I am led to a more moderate response, as follows: "Dear Writer: Your question is disingenuous or more than one level. In most American states employment laws are "at will". (Put briefly that means employment continues at the will of both parties, and the hired party can quit at any time, and the hiring party can terminate at any time.) Of course, in pursuit of a kindler, gentler, and more perfecter [sic] society, we have emplaced in law "a few limits upon what employers can fire you for". For example an employer cannot fire you for being black, female, pregnant, over 45, and in some states homosexual - these are specified in law. I challenge you to find a law that prevents your being fired for being white or male or heterosexual or outspokenly conservative, unless your employer is a governmental unit. If you are known to be a follower of National Socialist policies, or a member of the KKK you are gone in a second. If you are an opponent of abortion and it becomes known that you consider women who abort their babies to be murderers, it will take something longer than "a second" to "get you", but rest assured, you will be "got" through H.R.'s finding that you are creating a "hostile workplace". If you allow it to be known that you find paired males swapping spit objectionable or unpleasant to watch, you have no protection in law and a private employer can force you to jump through any number of sensitivity training hoops to keep your job if he allows you to remain on the payroll at all.

Vladimir Putin is alleged recently to have proclaimed that "Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say anything you want to." Discussions at that bastion of free thought and inquiry, Harvard University, have posited that some ideas are so inherently evil that the expression of those ideas should not be allowed, and the adherents of that notion have no problem with being fellow travelers with Vlad, if they are even aware of it. We have seen a huge kerfluffle develop over private comments made by Don Sterling within his own home (to one other person so far as we know - to his mistress/good friend/housekeeper/or whatever she is). The comments in the controversy were made while in his own house and recorded without his knowledge in contravention of California's two-party law. He has received far more criticism for his private opinion than she has for violating his confidence and the law.

Now, in our country, The end justifies the means for the libs and for all too many people for whom principle is only something you pay interest on, not obedience to. If the end is "desirable" - well, you do have to break a few eggs to make a good omelet, don't you?

Do not, therefore question the loss of free speech in America. Realistically, one must lament the its passing, not ponder its current state of health. I held responsible, vice-president level jobs for the last 16 years of my career - I made it a firm policy that no one at work had anything more than an inference about what I thought and that they never knew for whom I had voted. Had my real views on "politics" been known, my career would have torpedoed before it started.

If you are conservative, the watchword now is "Wise up, and shut up!" Voltaire's proclamation has been rewritten slightly in our society: "I may agree with what you say, and if I do, I will defend to the point of a minor wound your right to say if. If I don't agree with what you say, sit down and shut up!!" You can't lose your job for what you think if they don't know what you think, and they can't know what you think if you don't tell them!!

Uno Hu 8:17 .... Wise words but unless those who believe in free speech and the right to offend and be offended without inciting violence must be upheld or society has been handed to the socialists on a plate. What is needed is a few good prominent people to draw a line in the sand and encourage others to rally round. That's a big ask in the current society as most people have to much to lose is they become PC pariahs.

Time to take these PC brownshirts to court and bring a big lawuit against those liberal eletists
