Money is no no object when the goal is to shut students up

Dozens of posters plastered across the University of Michigan caution students not to say things that might hurt others’ feelings, part of a new “Inclusive Language Campaign” at the state’s flagship public university that cost $16,000 to implement.

Words declared unacceptable through the campaign include “crazy,” “insane,” “retarded,” “gay,” “tranny,” “gypped,” “illegal alien,” “fag,” “ghetto” and “raghead.” Phrases such as “I want to die” and “that test raped me” are also verboten.

Students have been asked to sign a pledge to “use inclusive language” and to help their peers “understand the importance of using inclusive language,” according to campaign materials.

“This program is intended to be educational, not regulatory,” Fitzgerald said of the campaign. “We hope there is only the understanding that we all participate in, and have the power to influence campus culture.”

Students living in university housing are urged to take part in a Change It Up! workshop, which “brings bystander intervention skills to first-year housing residents for the purpose of building safe, inclusive, and respectful communities.”

Before and after completing these workshops, students fill out surveys in which they reflect on internal biases that may pose a threat to an “inclusive campus.”  [Sounds like a Maoist self-criticism session]

George Orwell was very explicit in his warnings about the use of language to control thought. If people speak properly, they will think "properly."

Making truth claims also can "hurt others' feelings".

While I think it is important to be as gentle in our communications as possible, setting a standard of "hurting others' feelings" (aka Heckler's Veto) as what makes the difference between "good" speech and "bad" speech is what leads to "thought police" and the suppression of truth—the very reason why freedom of speech is the very first right protected by our Bill of Rights.

I am sure that calling President Bush a monkey or comparing him to hitler and vilifying other non progressive ideas would still be acceptable. The whole concept is just another means to promote progressive ideas at the expense of all others.

It would be fun to fill out the survey and let the administration know that the inclusive language campaign is an insane idea, thought up by crazy people who think we are retarded enough to buy into being gypped out of our right to free speech.

Once again we see educators replacing education with indoctrination.

Another fantastic example of controlling the language used in order to control the debate is the fact that these morons are still referred to as "progressives". When was the last time you heard any of them promote anything that could be considered any kind of progress? They want all of western society to regress back to various forms of despotism like autocracy and oligarchy, but by calling themselves progressive, this gives them a blanket defense against most criticism because if you're against them, you're against progress!

Same reason the most authoritarian among them call themselves liberal, the dumbest among them call themselves intellectuals or scholars, and the zealots among them call themselves rational and scientific.

Will the ACLU be suing over this like they do with public crosses?
